Freeski/Skitouring - Bindings (37)

More info: Ski-Touring Bindings ?

Ski-Touring Bindings

The variety of new ski-touring bindings is constantly increasing every year and with it their functionality and their area of application expand. Before buying, you should think about the terrain in which you will be on tour and what your requirements are for the binding in terms of function and safety.

Lightweight and ultra-light pin binding

With this type of pin binding, every gram counts - it is primarily designed for a quick ascent. The binding only consists of a toe piece and heel piece, each with two “pins” (iron pins) to hold the ski boot in the binding. The ultra-light bindings dispense with further climbing aids in order to save weight. With these bindings, the release of the heel is given by the strength of the spring; an individual setting is not possible. The toe piece has no release and opens when the shoe is already out of the heel piece.

Touring- /Alpine touring pin binding

A pin binding offers good performance on both - on the ascent and on the descent - and is therefore suitable for a wide range of touring applications. It finds the balance between low weight and comfortable running behavior on the ascent, as well as stability and power transmission on the descent. Most pin bindings can be added with a ski break for more safety. The individual models differ mainly in their handling, everyone has to find the most suitable model for themselves. In addition, there are differences in the safety release, while most pin bindings only release at the heel, there are already pin bindings with front release. We recommend asking a specialist, if you're not sure which binding is the right one for you.

Touring-/Alpin Touring frame binding

With a touring frame binding, you do not have to compromise on the downhill performance, as it is similar to an alpine binding and a corresponding setting of the safety release is possible. The frame binding is especially suitable for touring skiers for whom weight is not the most important issue, as most touring frame bindings are a little heavier. As a result, these bindings are the right choice for you if you only go on a tour every now and then but otherwise prefer to go on the slopes.

Downhill performance & freeride

The freeride / touring bindings are for everyone who only wants to make short ascents to enjoy long rides, perfect descents and not compromise on downhill performance or power transmission. These bindings are characterized by a high adjustable Z-value (14-16) and high stability. They also weigh a little more than normal touring bindings and are therefore not suitable for long ascents.
