The Wayback 88 skis boast versatility and reliable performance on ascents and descents, the Fritschi Xenic 10 bindings provide security and stability, and the high-quality Lucendro touring skins from Colltex guarantee the best grip on ascents. Your perfect companion for varied days in the mountains.
The K2 Wayback 88 introduces a new technology with the Steadfast Base – Glide Better, Longer
As usual, an all-round, worry-free ski with top handling characteristics in all conditions. The K2 Wayback 88 is and remains one of the best all-around touring skis on the market. The Steadfast Base requires 30% less energy to manufacture and retains wax 9 times longer than a high-end sintered base. In addition, the Wayback 88 offers an extremely lightweight touring ski with Titanal reinforcement and other key features such as the Carbon Overdrive and Snophobic Topsheet. It's truly hard to imagine such a lightweight ski delivering such good downhill performance. Why walk all the way up if the descent isn't fun at the end?
The set comes with the Fritschi Xenic 10 touring binding.
The Xenic is the most complete lightweight binding for alpinists who attack the climbs, but also accelerate on descents in any alpine terrain, or who work on their fitness on the slopes. Among the lightweight skis, the Xenic is the only one with a complete package of safety technologies. A locking mechanism to prevent unexpected release during the descent is unnecessary.
Fritschi touring bindings distinguish themselves through new technological approaches. In a nutshell: strong on the descent and uncompromising in injury prevention.
The light weight, easy entry, and practical operation make the Xenic an extremely agile companion for ski tours in any terrain. The innovative front unit with horizontally sliding pin levers provides secure support at the front. The system does not need to be preemptively locked during descents to prevent accidental release. At the rear, the extremely wide heel support ensures precise ski guidance. During descents, the high elasticity of the ski, with a length compensation of 10 mm, ensures reliable release according to the set force. With a DIN adjustment range starting at 3, the Xenic offers optimal safety even for very light ski tourers.
Please refer to the Fritschi compatibility chart! Here you can see if your ski boot is compatible with the binding.
Precisely fitting, high-quality Colltex skin
The Colltex Lucendro comes pre-cut and ready to use for the K2 Wayback 88. No trimming required, no hassle, and no risk of misfits – simply unpack, attach, and head straight to the mountains.
Made from 100% Techfibre, the Lucendro stands out with robust fibers that deliver consistent performance even after multiple uses. You’ll benefit from secure grip during ascents, ensuring stability and safety on every tour.
With the proven Hotmelt Adhesion technology, the skins adhere securely to your skis, even in changing temperatures and on longer trips. Attaching and removing the skins is quick and hassle-free, making them especially convenient.
Weighing only about 600g (depending on length), the Lucendro is lightweight yet reliable. Since it’s already precisely cut for the K2 Wayback 88, you can hit the slopes immediately without extra preparation.
K2 uses a variety of wood species in our cores to fine-tune the performance characteristics of each ski.
Paulownia is a lively, flexible wood with excellent strength-to-weight ratio.
Unidirectional carbon fiber integrated into the layups of the K2 Wayback and Talkback touring skis to keep them light and responsive.
Hydrophobic snow-shedding topsheet material that helps prevent snow buildup.
Titanal laminate specifically developed for the Wayback and Talkback collections to increase predictability, stability, and damping on lightweight touring ski constructions.
Gradual rise in the tip for great versatility in all conditions, with a low, short rise in the tail for added control in variable snow.
