This also applies to the new ALL TERRAIN RUNNING by LOWA collection, with which the outdoor company succeeds in combining existing successful values with current trends. With the three highlights AMPLUX, CITUX and FORTUX, the existing product portfolio of LOWA is to be supplemented and in the future expanded by a model variant with GORE-TEX membrane. "We also want to offer a product for the very fast outdoor athlete. We have already come a long way in the multifunctional segment with ALL TERRAIN SPORT and models like the INNOX. In this respect, it was a logical step for us to go further and develop even lighter, faster shoes," says LOWA Managing Director Alexander Nicolai.
Many years of development and intensive testing pay off
The LOWA Development Team looks back on a two-year development period at the headquarters in Jetzendorf, Bavaria, during which the new ATR category was intensively tested and optimized in the lab and on the mountain. New compounds had to be found, especially for the soles and upper materials - because trail running is all about grip and lightness. "In trail running, unlike hiking, we only have very short contact times with the ground. As a result, the rubber compound for the outsole must have a different grip than that of a hiking shoe," explains Michael Schüppel, Senior Development Manager at LOWA.
"In addition, trail running shoes are exposed to different types of stress. While running shoes on the road are moved more or less linearly, off-road there are increased lateral movements ."
The LOWA development team is particularly proud of the novel midsole in the AMPLUX and CITUX models, the faster representatives of the collection. In both, EVA material of varying thicknesses has been fused with a carbon reinforced nylon bottom plate. In this way, the shoes benefit from the lightness and rebound properties of carbon. The specially developed material mix ensures that the models are not too stiff and can be worn by all runners regardless of their performance level, not just the pros.
