Deuter for your outdoor adventures

Deuter Kids - for young adventurers

deuter at Sport Bittl

The backpack pioneer and market leader looks back on a long tradition.

Founded in 1898, the alpine history is unthinkable without deuter: our backpacks were tested intensively on numerous expeditions – from the first ascent of the north face of the Eiger by Anderl Heckmair in 1938 to prevailing expeditions of Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, woman of the 8000s.

The strong collaboration with extreme athletes und mountain guides of Alpine guides associations is the basis for trend-setting innovations like the first patent-registered mesh back system “Aircomfort”, the first ever bike backpack, SL backpacks perfectly matched to the female body or the stretchable “Exosphere” sleeping bags.

deuter: "Changing for the better means taking responsibility.”

With the deuter Promise, Europe’s biggest backpack manufacturer is laying out its vision for a better future: “We want to protect the places we love so that future generations can keep exploring our wonderful world. Preserving resources is at the core of our sustainability strategy, as is adopting responsible practices to make sure we tread as lightly as possible. Business must operate in harmony with people and the natural world.”

Under the slogan ‘Together for 360° Responsibility’, the deuter Promise sustainability strategy is based on the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and then applied in a holistic way – from product development and design, to materials selection, production methods and transport, and fair working conditions through to their repair service, second-life products and upcycling of fabric remnants such as the Infiniti series.

deuter works closely together with its partners and international organizations to uphold the highest environmental standards. Which is why they are bluesign® System partners, members of Germany’s national Partnership for Sustainable Textiles (Bündnis für nachhaltige Textilien), and they hold Leader status with the Fair Wear Foundation and are Green Button (Grüner Knopf) certified, for instance. Their collection is also 100% PFC free. In addition, they are actively involved in social and environmental initiatives like Climate Partner, POW, etc. And their efforts are bearing fruit too: The proportion of recycled materials they use and the number of products that hold bluesign® product status is steadily rising. In 2021, 19% of the collection holds bluesign® product status and is Green Button certified. They are on track to achieving their 2025 goal of having 50% of all products made with recycled main fabric and 70% of main fabrics bluesign ® certified.

Spurred on by the vision of making the world a better place for future generations, deuter is also trying to encourage its own customers to make more sustainable consumption choices. Because ‘changing for the better means taking responsibility’, and we all have to embrace that responsibility if we are to bring about change. More information
